Lowe History

This is an account of the Lowe family as I know them to date. There could be discrepancies and please feel free to let me know if you find any of the following details to be incorrect.

Thomas Lowe was born in 1677  and the 16 children listed may not belong to Thomas Lowe and Jane Twisse who was born in Leigh 1671 and they were married 1697.  They both died in 1728.
Children of the above were Thomas Lowe born  1698 Golborne died 1734, Ellin Lowe born 1701 Golborne, Catherine Lowe born 1702 Ashton, James Lowe born 1704 Ashton died 1727, Mary Lowe born 1705 Ashton,  Jane Lowe born 1706 Ashton, John Lowe born 1707 Ashton, George Lowe born 1707 Ashton died 1770, Henry Lowe born 1708 Ashton, Elizabeth Lowe born 1709 Ashton, Margaret Lowe born 1709 died 1738, Alice Lowe born 1712, Henry Lowe born 1712, ThomasLowe 1716, Thomas Lowe 1718, Jane Lowe born 1722 died 1748.

George Lowe married Susan Rigby who was born in 1713 in Kenyon, Lowton, they were married in 1735 He died in 1770 and she died in 1773

Their children were:-

Thomas Lowe born 1736, Ellen Lowe born 1738 died 1758, Elizabeth Lowe born 1740 died 1741 William Lowe born 1742 Ashton, Jane Lowe born 1744, George Lowe born 1747 Ashton died 1822, Lydia Lowe born 1750 died 1763, Susannah Lowe born 1754 died 1760.

William Lowe married  Ann Clark born 1744  they were married in 1762.

Their children were:-

Ellen Lowe born 1763 Ashton died 1780, Aggy Lowe born 1764 Ashton, John Lowe born 1766*(details of family later), Susannah Lowe born 1768 Ashton, Ann Lowe born 1770 Ashton, George Lowe born 1773 Ashton died 1837, Jane Lowe 1775 Ashton, William Lowe born 1771 buried 1782, Peter Lowe born 1779 Ashton Ellen born 1781 died 1793, Peter Lowe born 1784 Ashton, Margaret Lowe born 1786 Ashton

George Lowe Married Ellen Shaw who was born in 1778 they were married in 1797.  He died in 1837 and she died in 1844

John Lowe born 1798, Ann Lowe born 1800 Wigan, James Lowe born 1802 died 1811, George Lowe born 1803 died 1852, William Lowe born 1805,  Mary Lowe born 1807 died 1808, Thomas Lowe 1809 died 1835, Mary Lowe born 1811, James Lowe born 1814 Ashton died 1839, Ellen Lowe born 1814 Ashton died 1834, Henry Lowe born 1816 Ashton died 1891.

Henry Lowe married Ann Sim born 1818 they were married in 1836

Their children were:-

George Lowe born 1836 Brockstedes died 1856, William Lowe born 2 p.m. Downall Green and Thomas Lowe born 4 p.m. Downall Green (twins) both died in 1837 William died at 17 hours not sure about Thomas. Thomas Lowe  born 1839,  Gustavus Hillock, William Lowe 1839 Gustavus Hillock died 1839 (twins) Ellen Lowe 1840 Ashton in Makerfield, Mary Lowe 1845, Anne Lowe 1846 Pewitt (or Puet) Moss, William Lowe born 1849 Pewitt Moss, James Lowe born 1854 Downall Green. George Lowe born 1856 Town Green, John Lowe born 1859 Downall Green died 1860, Peter Lowe born 1859 Ashton, John Lowe born 1860 Brockstedes.

Thomas Lowe born 1839 married Susannah Sudworth born 1839 in Downall Green and married at the Register Office, King Street, Wigan 14th May 1861. Susannah was the daughter of Jane Crank and James Sudworth.

Their children were :-

Henry Lowe born 1861 Downall Green died 1948, James Lowe born 1863 Downall Green, Thomas Lowe born 20th July 1865 Church Lane, Downall Green, died 1929, Jane Ann Lowe born 1869 Downall Green died 1931, George Lowe born 1873.

Thomas Lowe born 1865 married Mary Elizabeth Shaw born 10th September 1871 Downall Green Ashton. Her father was Thomas Shaw  born 19th January 1840 (4 a.m.) and her mother was Elizabeth Naylor born 14th March 1846 at Billinge Chapel End. They were married at Holy Trinity Church on the 14th November 1870.

The children of Thomas Lowe and Mary Elizabeth Shaw born 1871 died 1960, who were married at the Wesleyan Chapel, Standishgate, Wigan  in January 1891 were:-

Lilian Mary Lowe born 1891 died 1959, Margaret Lowe born 1893, died 1963, Susannah Lowe born 1895, Ellen Lowe born 1898, Elizabeth Lowe born 1900, Thomas Lowe born 1902, Doris Lowe born 22nd June 1904, Jane Lowe born 1906, Norman Lowe born 1910 and Muriel Lowe born 1913.

Doris Lowe born 1904 married Ernest Nicholson born 10th February 1902 on the 8th June 1929 at Holy Trinity Church, Downall Green.

I was born on the 24th April 1930.

There are no Lowe male family to carry on this line. Thomas and Norman both had daughters.

The descendants of John Lowe*

John Lowe born 24th January 1766 in Ashton and christened 16 February 1766 He married Betty Fairhurst 7th November 1791. She was born 15th December 1765 in Ashton and christened 29th December 1765. They were married at St.Oswald's, Winwick.

The children of John and Betty were:-

Peter Lowe born 24th December 1793 Ashton and christened 18th January 1794 in Wigan Parish, died 4th January 1856   Alice born 12th September 1796 Ashton and christened 5th November 1796 Wigan Parish,Male born 1797 died 1798, John born 27th April 1799 christened 18th May 1799, Elizabeth born 6th September 1801 Ashton,  Ellen Lowe, born 27th January 1804 in Ashton and christened 25th February 1804 in Wigan. Matty born 2nd April 1806 Ashton and christened 8th May 1806, , Benjamin born 18th August 1808  Ashton christened 10th September 1808,

Peter Lowe married Ellen Green on the 26th November 1816 at St.Oswalds Winwick, she was born about 1795.  Their children were:-

Elizabeth Green born 11 April 1812, christened 23 May 1812 Wigan Parish, John Lowe born 24 April 1817 Ashton-in-Makerfield , christened Wigan Parish 19th May 1917, died 15th October 1891 Willard, Box Elder, Ut, buried 20th October 1891 Willard, Henry born 4th May 1819 Ashton-in-Makerfield christened 24th May 1819, Martha born 24th August 1823 Ashton christened 23rd November 1823, Peter born 21 September 1821 Ashton, christened 18th November 1821 Wigan Parish, James born about 1825 Wigan.

John Lowe married Mary Willgoose on the 17th November 1839 Haigh Church, Wigan she was born on the 13th August 1816 in Wigan and christened 17th October 1816 Wigan, she died in Willard on the 26th August 1875 and was buried in Willard 30th August 1875. Their children were:-

Richard Lowe born 23rd August 1840 St Helens, Lancs, christened Wigan 13th September 1840 Wigan died 15th September 1901 Cardston, Alberta Canada, buried 17th September Cardston Cemetery, Alberta, William Lowe born 1st January 1842 Wallgate, Wigan christened 16th January Wigan Parish, died 29th April 1934 Willard, buried May 1934 Willard Cemetery, Jarvis Lowe born 1st July 1844 St.Helens, Wigan, christened 18th August 1844 Wigan Parish died 3rd January 1845 England Peter Lowe born 9th March 1846 Wigan or St.Helens Lancs died 9th August 1914 Ogden, Weber,Ut. buried Willard Cemetery, Elizabeth Lowe born 7th May 1848 St Helens buried 11th May 1848 St Helens, Elizabeth Lowe born 14th August 1849 St.Helens died April 1862 Willard, also a twin male born 14th August 1849 St.Helens died April 1864, John Lowe born 23 March 1852 St.Helens and died 4th October 1920.  The following members of the family were born after they emigrated - they are as follows:- Mary Ellen Lowe born 11th February 1855 Centerville, Davis, Ut. died 16th July 1928 Willard and buried 19th July 1928 Willard, Alice Ann Lowe born 16th January 1857 Centerville, Davis, Ut. died March 1860 Willard, Sarah Jane Lowe born 7th January 1859 Centerville, Davis, Ut died 14th August 1886 Elba, Cassia and buried 16th August 1886 Elba.

William Lowe  born 1842 and married Emma Cordon on the 17th January 1865 in Willard, she was born 17th April 1846 in Nauvoo,Hncock she died on 10th November 1935 Willard and buried 14th November 1935. Their children were:-

Emma Elizabeth Lowe born 20th September 1865 in Willard died 25th December 1929 and buried 29th December 1929, Alice Adelaide Lowe born 30th November 1866 Willard,  died 6th October 1945 Willard buried 10th October 1945 Willard, Priscilla Lowe born 2nd October 1868 Willard died 13th September 1927 Willard and buried 16th September 1927 Salt Lake city Ut.,William Jarvis Lowe born 13th November 1870 Willard died 23 July 1879, Minnie Myrah Lowe born 30th April 1874 Willard died 189?, Alfred John Lowe born 3rd July 1876 Willard, Delia Eliza Lowe born 30th June 1879 Willard buried 14th December 1961 Provo, Utah, Walter Peter Lowe born 22n January 1881 Willard buried December 1893, Royal Cordon Lowe born 9th October 1883 Willard died 2nd March 1945, Joel Parker Lowe born 15th April 1886 Willard died 10th October 1953 Willard and buried 14th October 1953.

Emma Elizabeth Lowe born 20th September 1865 married Thomas Richard Cole on the 16th November 1882 at Salt Lake City she died 25th December 1929 and was buried 29th December 1929 at Willard. Thomas Cole was born 9th November 1859 and died 25th January 1945 in Ogden and was buried 29th June in Willard.  Their children were :-

Thomas William Cole born 30th July 1883 died 28th January 1976 Burley Cassia, buried 2nd February 1976 Willard, Rolla Rupert Cole born 26th October 1886 Willard died 20th December 1945, Emma Charlotte Cole born 9th August 1889 Willard, died 18th June 1961 Ogden, buried 22nd June 1961 Willard, Edward Jenkins Cole born 15th December 1892 Willard died 3rd January 1962, Eva Melissa Cole born 24th October 1894 Willard died 5th March 1973 Salt Lake City, buried 8th March 1973 Salt Lake City, Minnie Blanche Cole born 3rd October 1900 Willard died 7th May 1974, Aleda Lowe Cole born 1903, Walter Lowe Cole born 12th October 1903 Willard died 14th October 1904
